When was it started?
Brook was founded in 1964 by Helen Brook - then Chair of a north London family planning association clinic - to provide contraception for unmarried women, at a time when there was no such provision. Not until three years later, in 1967, were local authorities finally permitted to give contraceptive advice to unmarried women.
